Year 9 – WW1 Virtual Reality

Dear Year 9 Parents/Carers,

As part of your child’s work in History this half term they have been studying World War One, including soldiers’ experiences of the trenches. We have been very impressed with all our students’ engagement in all lessons about this topic! Since we are currently unable to take our students on any visits to enrich their studies, we have booked a company called Time Travel Education to come into school to deliver a 1 hour workshop to each class in year 9 on Friday 16th October in your child’s Humanities lesson.

The company use Virtual Reality headsets to deliver a multi-dimensional lesson where students will use the latest VR headsets to immerse themselves in the sights and sounds of the Western Front in a structured workshop.

Time Travel Education have worked with Farnborough Academy to ensure their session meets all our guidelines to be COVID-19 secure – Your child will work with their usual History class and teacher for the session. Each student will be given their own VR headset which will be sanitised before and after they alone use it in their session. Staff delivering the session will remain socially distanced from students and be provided with face visors and masks when inside the Farnborough Academy.

There is no cost to students for this experience. We hope that this session will enrich pupils’ understanding of their learning in History. If you have any questions about this session, or would prefer that your child does not participate in the session please contact me by email to discuss this further J.Malloney@thefarnboroughacademy.com

Yours faithfully,

Mrs J Malloney
