OCR Cambridge Nationals – Engineering Design
- If you are looking at a career in construction, engineering or product design and development, this qualification could be for you!
- The Engineering Design course helps students understand the processes of engineering design and how market requirements inform client briefs. Through practical activities they develop skills in computer modelling and model making and how to communicate design ideas effectively.
What will I study & how will I be assessed?
The course consists of 4 units: one examined and three coursework. Each unit is worth 25% of total marks. The units are covered over the two years of KS4, before the exam R105 is sat in Year 11. As you can see from the table, pupils will research and analyse existing products, develop and present designs and realise those designs in 3D using different materials.
The use of new and emerging technologies including CAD will also play a key feature in the course, as will the knowledge of the internal workings of products. If you enjoy designing and making, being creative and problem solving, this course is for you.
