BTEC Level 1/2 First Award in Music

What will I study and how will I be assessed?
his is a Level 2 qualification.
You will study the following two compulsory units:
- The music industry
- Managing a music product
You will also study two optional units out of the ones below:
- Introducing live sound
- Introducing music composition
- Introducing music performance
- Introducing music recording
This course requires you to learn about stage presence, working with others and musicality therefore it is a requirement that you either play an instrument or sing and are confident to perform in front of others.
Assessment of this course will be through various assignments and tasks based on the units above and 25% of the qualification will be externally assessed. You can achieve anything from a Level 2 Pass to Level 2 Distinction*.
What will I do in lessons?
You will have 3 hours per week for this course and will cover the following units:
Unit 1: The Music Industry – This will look at the emergence of the role of the self-employed producer, performer and promoter.
Unit 2: Managing a Music Product – This will give you an opportunity to demonstrate musical skills and will introduce the role of planning and promotion. You will be able to base your work on a live concert, event, CD or online product giving you the perfect opportunities for performance!
The optional units will be discussed in more detail with individuals to ensure you complete the best units to match your ability.
Where can BTEC Music take me?
This qualification will give you the skills and knowledge to go onto a level 3 qualification which can be academic, applied general/technical level music or music technology or to an apprenticeship.
There are many job roles within the music industry including a teacher, performer, composer, music technician and DJ to name a few!
